Assessment
At Alexander Hosea School, assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning.
Formative assessment
Our assessment is high quality and much of this is on-going, formative assessment.
This includes:
- Observation
- Questioning
- Marking and feedback
- Self and Peer critique (children reviewing learning and providing feedback)
These formative assessments help teachers to gain a knowledge and understanding of the children’s skills and what they know already in an on-going way so that they can use this information to plan appropriately for each day. This ensures a more personalised approach to teaching and learning, which supports pupil progress.
Summative assessment
We also use opportunities for problem-solving and independent learning, as well as informal and statutory tests to provide summative assessments. These are used to determine the standards children are working at. Again, the resulting data is analysed and used to inform future planning, which promotes learning and progress.
The expectation is that all children at least meet the Age Related Expectation for their year group.
Curriculum
If you want to find out more about our inspiring curriculum, our curriculum leader, Mrs Windmill, will be able to answer your questions.
If you want to know more about what your child will be learning, the class teacher will be able to help you, or you can always look at the project overviews and class newsletters on the class pages on our school website.
